Developer Breaks Ground On Second Tower At ‘The Modern’ In Fort Lee
FORT LEE, N.J. — New construction has begun on a 47-story luxury residential tower in Fort Lee, just south of the entrance to George Washington Bridge. The new tower is part of The Modern and is a mirror image of the first tower — a 47-story glass building comprising 450 rental residences in a mix of studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom layouts.
SJP Properties is developing the community in partnership with Prudential Real Estate Investors and Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company.
“The start of construction on The Modern’s second tower marks a true milestone in the continued renaissance of Fort Lee,” Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich said. “It’s been remarkable to witness the success of the first building, which has injected an incredible amount of energy into our community. The development of the second tower is symbolic of Fort Lee’s transformation from a town reenergized into a prime destination on New Jersey’s booming Gold Coast.”
Offering views of the Hudson River and New York City skyline, The Modern’s two towers will be situated between a nearly two-acre public park that will include water features and walking paths reminiscent of Central Park in New York City.
The park will also host a 7,000-square-foot restaurant with indoor and open-air dining, as well as a refreshment kiosk.
Additionally, SJP will assist in the development of an adjoining 13,000-square-foot building to be donated to the Borough of Fort Lee, which will house a large public theater and a public museum.
Amenities include a state-of-the-art fitness center; a separate yoga and Pilates studio; a spa featuring a community sauna and massage services; lounge area, which is available for catered events; screening room, golf simulation area, and a “tween” room with a Nintendo Wii station. An Internet lounge with snacks is also available, where residents can hook up their laptop computers to available WiFi and printers.
Each tower will have access to abundant parking, and a courtesy shuttle provides daily access to New York City with pick-ups and drop-offs to the Manhattan subway less than 10 minutes away.
