Are You Ready To Rock N’ Roll?

Rock and Roll was a form of popular music that evolved from rhythm and blues during 1950’s, and was characterized by the use of electric guitars, a strong rhythm with an accent on the offbeat, and youth-oriented lyrics. The terminology rock-and-roll is credited to a Cleveland disc jockey named Alan Freed, who introduced this new sound to the airwaves. Teen-agers loved the music, American Bandstand was born, and new dances like The Stroll, The Mashed Potato, The Hully Gully and The Twist became popular.  There were groups like The Platters and Diana Ross and The Supremes, soloists like Chuck Berry, Carl Perkins and, of course, Elvis. There was a doo-wop group on every street corner and a band practicing in every garage.  It was an era of music and dancing that, to this day, maintain their rich past. However, Rock n’ Roll was not readily accepted by members of the ‘older’ citizens, and created quite a stir in the press. If you want to learn more about the controversies associated with R & R, log on to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FCv58ThH5E

But, in spite of the controversy, Rock n’ Roll survived. Would you believe there are still doo-wop groups performing to packed-house capacity audiences today?

The Infernos Band, New Jersey’s premier live performance group, has been on the music scene since 1977 and is still performing their classic tunes in front of a live audience. True, not all are the original performers, but their rock n’ roll sound is still on fire.

Then there’s this group of guys from the Bronx called The Bronx Wanderers, who perform the real deal doo-wop and rock n’ roll to the delight of their audiences.  This crew does more than just perform the music of Dion, The Four Seasons, The Duprees, and The Brooklyn Bridge; they do it with class, reverence and soul.

Johnny Maestro, founder of The Brooklyn Bridge, died in 2010, and Freddy Ferrara, part of The Del Satins group that eventually merged with The Brooklyn Bridge group, died in 2011.  Since then, replacements had been recruited to recapture their signature sound.  Successful with those efforts, The Brooklyn Bridge still garners the adulation of their audience.
