Ross Dock is a large scenic riverfront park just north of the George Washington Bridge in Fort Lee, New Jersey.   On May 3rd, runners participating in Rock the River, will make their way within New Jersey’s Palisades Interstate Park via a 6 1/2-mile out-and-back route filled with hills, trees and views of the Hudson River.

Half Marathon (USATF-NJ Sanctioned)

The race begins at the southern end of the park and promises to be a bit challenging as the runners head north along a route of numerous hills along the paved park roads. The course will keep runners on Henry Hudson Drive for most of the half marathon route to the half way turnaround point near Hillside Avenue in Alpine.  Runners will then turn in the traffic circle and head back along the route they’ve just run, back to the Ross Dock.

Half marathon starts: 9:00am

Half marathon awards ceremony: 12:15pm

5K (USATF-NJ Sanctioned)

The Rock the River Palisades 5K is another beautiful race, with an elevation change of just over 200 feet up and down. It starts level with the Hudson River and heads about halfway up the cliffs, then back down to Ross Dock.

5K starts: 9:15am

5K awards ceremony: 10:30am

6K Trail Run & Walk (USATF-NJ Sanctioned)

The Rock the River Palisades 6K Trail Run & Walk is the newest addition to the race. In partnership with the NY-NJ Trail Conference, this component of Rock the River directly supports the preservation of the Palisades Cliffs. You may walk, hike, or run the course along the beautiful Long Path up the cliffs, across the ridgeline, then back down to the river.

6K trail run & walk starts: 9:05am

6K awards ceremony: 10:30am

Layers of removable clothing are suggested for the runners. Fort Lee typically sees cool to mild weather conditions in May, a month that has seen record temperatures here as low as 28 degrees (in 1907) and as high as 99 degrees (in 1962).  On race day, May 3rd, the anticipated average low is 50ºF and the average high is 67ºF.

If you and your family are accompanying a runner, there is a lot to do while waiting.  Ross Dock Picnic Area features picnic tables, some grills (visitors are permitted to bring their own), children’s playground, restrooms, water, and waste receptacles, as well as access to a relaxing walking trail.

There will be no car access to the start/finish area in the park at Ross Dock Picnic Area.  Free race-day parking will be available at the nearby Mack-Cali building at One Bridge Plaza, Fort Lee, with free shuttles running continuously from the front of the building to the race start at Ross Dock Picnic Area. Shuttle buses are provided by NY Waterway for your convenience.
