Cherry Blossom Festival

Branch Brook Park in Newark, New Jersey is a wonderful location to appreciate the outdoors, engage in athletic competitions and get closer to nature.  Located only a short drive from the luxurious rental apartments at The Modern in Fort Lee, you can enjoy this space for many activities, like a family picnic, or take advantage of the many choices offered by the Essex County Parks System.

For thirty-nine years the Branch Brook Park has hosted a Cherry Blossom Festival, second only to that of Washington, DC.  This is a ten day festival with many events, some including a 10K race, trolley bus tours, and a Family Day of Japanese cultural activities, including demonstrations on origami, bonsai, ikebana, and martial arts.

Two special events are planned for opening weekend;

On Saturday, April 11th the festival features ‘Race through the Park in the Cherry Blossom Challenge’, an official NJBA event.  From 7:00am through 1:00pm cyclists will be taking part in a variety of bike runs through the park. Not riding?  Come cheer them on – no fee for cheerleaders. For more information, contact Tom Mains at or Jim Bernstein at or to register you may apply on-line at
